It was one of the most heartwarming, heart wrenching, stunning, awesome and bizarre weeks in WWE history. I’m here to recap in all in the return of the WWE Week in Review. Let’s get it started.

WWE Week in Review 4/6/14-4/13/14

The Ultimate Warrior Passes Away.

Unfortunately, there was something in the WWE Universe that trumped all of the news from WrestleMania. Tuesday, The Ultimate Warrior passed away at the age of 54. The cause of death is still unknown but it is believed that Warrior suffered a massive heart attack. The death of any pro-wrestler is a sad day for wrestling fans. We respect what these guys do to entertain us and it breaks our heart when they are gone too soon. What is especially heartbreaking about the death of Warrior is that he had just returned to WWE just days before.

Warrior and Vince McMahon buried a lot of hurt feelings at Saturday’s Hall of Fame ceremony. It’s been well documented on the love/hate relationship the two had. I’m not going wax poetic on the Warrior and claim that I was a huge fan of his because I wasn’t. My earliest memory of Warrior was him beating Hulk Hogan for the WWF Title at WrestleMania VI. Of course I couldn’t root for a guy that beat The Hulkster. After that, I just never got behind him. It was cool to see him back in 1996 but he was gone before he even made an impact. Then Warrior disappeared from the WWE Universe until this past October when he was a spokesperson for the WWE 2K14 video game. He was then inducted into the Hall of Fame and we all thought another “WWF guy” came home. Despite not being a fan of Warrior, I was truly happy for him to have mended fences with Vince and be back in the WWE family. There’s no denying Warrior’s star and the impact he had on the WWF in the early 90s. The man had an undeniable charisma and was a legend in this business.

The bizarre part of Warrior’s death was his appearance on RAW the night before he passed. He cut this promo: “No WWE talent becomes a legend on their own. Every man's heart one day beats its final beat. His lungs breathe their final breath. And if what that man did in his life makes the blood pulse through the body of others and makes them believe deeper in something that's larger than life, then his essence, his spirit, will be immortalized by the storytellers -- by the loyalty, by the memory of those who honor him, and make the running the man did live forever. I am the Ultimate Warrior, you are the Ultimate Warrior fans and the spirit of the Ultimate Warrior will run forever."

It was almost as if he knew he was on borrowed times and this was his goodbye to the world. It’s so creepy to listen to his promo after his death. My deepest condolences to his wife and young daughters. R.I.P. Warrior.

Daniel Bryan owned WrestleMania XXX.

The YES Movement finally got what it wanted and that is Daniel Bryan as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. The first match of WrestleMania XXX was Bryan battling Triple H to see who would enter the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match. It was a classic bout and set a tone that was hard to top the rest of the evening. The Game was at his best and Bryan did what he does. It’s a match I’d put in the ****1/2 range. It was that good. It had a main event feel to it and was perfectly orchestrated by both men.

Later in the evening, the long journey to the top was finally complete. Daniel Bryan made Batista submit to the YES Lock and Daniel Bryan was the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Since SummerSlam we’ve dealt with screw jobs, short title reigns, horrible main events, bad booking and becoming a Wyatt but on April 6th 2014, Daniel Bryan took his rightful place at the top of the WWE Mountain. Based on RAW and SmackDown, the new champion seems to have a lot of momentum and a great direction. Let’s hope it continues and he gets a great title reign to cement his spot at the top.

The Streak is over.

In one of the most shocking in-ring moments in WWE history, Brock Lesnar pinned The Undertaker clean in the middle of the ring to snap the famed Streak. It was such a big deal it got a decent amount of main stream coverage. I know a lot of people, myself included didn’t pay much attention to the build for this match because we all assumed the match would be great and The Undertaker would win. Neither of which came to be true.

The match was awful. I was watching the match and found myself falling asleep it was so boring. Lesnar hit the third F-5 of the match and the referee’s hand hit the mat a third time and I woke up like I just funneled ten Red Bulls. I didn’t believe what I just saw. I had to rewind the match to make sure I didn’t dream the ending of the match. Nope it was no dream. Brock Lesnar beat The Undertaker at WrestleMania. The Undertaker suffered a severe concussion in the match so I don’t know if that’s the reason the match was bad but it snapped another Undertaker WrestleMania streak. This one of having awesome matches at WrestleMania. The announcers did a great job of playing up the shock value of what happened. They stayed silent. The crowd was in a stunned silence. Lesnar’s music didn’t hit right away leaving the entire arena quit until Paul Heyman began screaming “You did it”.

I was always under the impression the Streak would never end. It was just so special that it should go on forever. I thought if it was ever to end it would be by the guy that was “the next big thing”. The guy that WWE wanted to carry the company going forward. Not by the “next big thing” from twelve years ago that wrestles like three times a year. Reports have stated that Undertaker has wanted Lesnar to end the Streak since WrestleMania 27 and things finally fell into place for this year’s WrestleMania. If the Undertaker wanted the Streak to end then so be it. It was his decision. We can question who broke it all we want but it was the Undertaker’s call and he’s earned the right to make that call. The real area of concern is the man’s health. If the Undertaker made his last WWE appearance at WrestleMania, then I want to say thank you for the memories and great matches and for scaring the crap out of me when I was seven.

Other News

Cesaro is a Paul Heyman Guy. If it wasn’t for Daniel Bryan, Cesaro would be the runaway Wrestler of the Week. He won the inaugural Andre the Giant Battle Royal at WrestleMania and by body slamming The Big Show over the top rope then he aligned himself with Paul Heyman the next night on RAW. It’s apparent that WWE has big plans for the King of Swing and I’m excited to see him in a bigger role. The man is awesome.

Paige debuts and wins the Divas Championship. NXT Women’s Champion, Paige interrupted AJ Lee’s victory celebration on RAW and then quickly beat the long reigning Divas Champion quickly on RAW to make the biggest Diva debut impact in a very long time. The future is now in WWE and this anti-Diva is just the beginning of a wave of fresh talent to hit the main roster.

RVD returns to WWE. People will chant “you still got it”, he’ll point at his shoulders, look high as a kite and be gone before SummerSlam so enjoy Mr. Monday Night while you can.

The Retro Wrestling Match of the Week- WWF Championship Match- The Ultimate Warrior vs. Hulk Hogan from WrestleMania VI.

In honor of The Ultimate Warrior, we’ll take a look at his greatest achievement inside a wrestling ring. WrestleMania VI was headlined by “The Ultimate Challenge”. It was the Intercontinental Champion, The Ultimate Warrior vs. The WWF Champion, Hulk Hogan. Vince McMahon put his two most popular stars in the ring against each other to headline his biggest show. It was unheard of at the time to have a babyface vs. babyface main event but Vince went for it. He wanted Hogan to pass the torch to Warrior and that’s what the Hulkster did. Hogan hadn’t been pinned clean in about 8 or 9 years at this point and there it was at SkyDome. Warrior pinned Hogan clean in the middle of the ring to become the new WWF Champion. The match was much better than it had any right being and ranked #7 on my WWF/E Championship Matches at WrestleMania countdown I recently did. I was Warrior’s crowning achievement in a wrestling ring as he became the top dog in the WWF.
