Wednesday Headlines: Kane Praises Bryan and Reflects on His Career
WWE superstar Kane had some kind words for his Team Hell No tag team partner Daniel Bryan in an interview with AL.com promoting a house show in Mobile, Alabama.
The Kane comments are in italics with my thoughts immediately following.
"Daniel Bryan might be the most talented guy on the roster right now. I think he's the best technical wrestler we have, and he's also one of those guys who's been able to forge a connection with our fans. And people who are able to do that are very successful."
I think he's absolutely right in calling Bryan the most talented guy on WWE's roster. I think he's right at the very top along with CM Punk. Punk's been out for two months, so Bryan has had more of an opportunity to stand out from the pack. It also helps that Bryan is wrestling in long matches on a regular basis on Raw and Smackdown. The best thing about WWE right now is how much screen time Bryan is getting.
"The past year, I’ve really enjoyed it, maybe more so than any other time in my career. It has allowed me to do things I’ve never done before.”
I'm glad he's enjoyed it because I think he's done a great job too. His comedy skits with Bryan showed another side of him while his in-ring work has been solid especially in all of the tag matches he's been involved with against The Shield. I went to a house show last September and his act with Bryan was by far the most popular thing on the show. That's when it was really fresh, but here we are nine months later and they're still getting big reactions.
“I’m a bit of an institution at this point. I don’t know if this is a compliment, it’s one of those things where you go, ‘oh please don’t say it,’ but I get, ‘Hey, I’ve been watching you since I was a kid.’ And they’re all grown up now and you’re like, ‘Aw, man.’ I get that a lot.”
The Kane character started in 1997. He was in WWE a couple of years before that as Isaac Yankem the evil dentist and fake Diesel as well. His longevity is pretty amazing. How much longer can he go? Nobody knows except him. He's 46 years old now, so the clock is ticking. However, if he's healthy and he still loves it then I can see him going another two or three years.
"I haven't loved a storyline this much since that Gene Snitsky angle where he said 'it wasn't my fault' all the time. Comedy gold. Gold I say!"
Note: He didn't really say that last part. But he probably thinks it. You know he does. (WrestlingINC.com)
IN OTHER NEWS
- Smackdown GM Booker T had successful surgery on Tuesday to repair a partial distal triceps tear in his left arm. He's been off television for several weeks and should be back soon. More on the story is at WWE.com if you're interested.
That's a legit story. This WWE.com "news item" about Kaitlyn getting fined $10,000 for attacking a referee on Smackdown is a storyline.
This is why we should always question the legitimacy of "news" on WWE.com. A lot of time they put up content that's there to enhance a storyline. Then at other times they will put up legit news that make people wonder if it's real or not. It's hard to figure out.
For what it's worth, I think WWE.com can be terrible a lot of times. Some things like their ECW history story recently was awesome. However, they absolutely love list columns to the point that they don't seem capable of doing anything else. I'm waiting for them to put out a "Top 10 Wrestler with 'The' before their name" list. Hopefully The Berzerker makes it! Huss!
- Remember Stacy Keibler? She's a former WCW & WWE diva whose career now is…uh…dating George Clooney? Is that a career? Apparently it is. She's back in the news because she got a real job as the host of some new TV show called "Supermarket Superstar." (Zap2it.com)
I could provide info on the show, but I really think the name is awful and have no interest in ever watching it in my life even by accident. So why don't I instead share with you a pic of the lovely Miss Keibler from her WWE days?
You know what they say: wedgies are a girl's best friend. What? You're welcome.
- Finally, on Monday's Raw there was an awesome match between Daniel Bryan and Seth Rollins. Because of that match, Ring of Honor Wrestling uploaded a full match between the two from five years ago. Bryan was known as Bryan Danielson there (his real name) and Rollins was Tyler Black. Here is that match.
I loved this match just as much as the one on Raw. I'm glad that WWE recognizes how great their chemistry is. I hope there are more matches between them in the future.
The return of TJR Radio is tonight at 10pmET/9pmCT. Normally we do our show on Tuesdays, but because of the NBA Finals (what an asskicking by the Spurs!) we're moving it to Wednesday this week. The next show on June 25 is a Tuesday. Since it's only two weeks between shows we might only go an hour this week. If you miss it live you can download it or play it online right here. You can also get it on iTunes right here too.
