Wednesday Headlines: The Beginning of The End?
Welcome loyal TJR readers! I know that you guys were expecting the esteemed Mr. Canton today, but due to time constraints, I have volunteered to cover today’s headlines. Now that we got that out of the way, let’s get to the fake news!
As you guys may know, I am the TNA review guy here at TJR. It’s a fun gig and I enjoy it, but it looks like I could be out of a job soon:
TNA announced that Tara (a/k/a Lisa Marie Varon) has been released from her contract. Read their official statement at Impactwrestling.com
Drew Hankinson, who wrestled as DOC in TNA, announced that his contract with the company expired on July 12. "As of this evening, we have officially parted ways," he wrote at Twitter.com/ImpactDOC
These releases have come on the heels of other talent such as Taeler Hendrix, Christian York, Joey Ryan, Crimson, and Matt Morgan. This is obviously a bad time in TNA as they have been losing money, and have finally decided to cut back on costs. What boggles my mind, and the mind of countless others, is that they still employ Hulk Hogan. I don’t know what kind of Kool-Aid she has been drinking, but Hogan is not the answer. He has been with the company for a few years now, and there has been no significant turnaround. He’s a poison to the company, but Dixie doesn’t seem to understand. Allow me to spell it out for you Dixie: It’s 2013. The man that you have leading your company had his last great moment when Bill Clinton was president. He is not the “savior” you think he is.
You know what would have saved you a ton of money? Cutting Hogan and his ridiculous contract, and actually building your company around the veterans you have whilst building up the younger talent. I can only imagine what gos through the minds of the talent that has just been told “Sorry, you can’t make your living here anymore. We have to cut costs, but instead of relieving ourselves from the albatross that is Hogan, we have decided to let you struggle to live your dream.” It’s utter bullshit.
Also, they keep going after "mainstream" celebrities like Rampage Jackson, and they have received very little in return. The only way you are going to keep wrestling fans tuned in is because of wrestling. I know that it's a foreign concept to Dixie, but even she can't be stupid to not understand that, can she? And one more thing, how come they can cut all this talent, but still have the balls to keep Garett Bischoff?
In other news:
- A court order has been issued for the arrest of WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, who has not paid his agreed upon settlement of $4,000 a month in alimony to his ex-wife, who incidentally turned herself in to the police for making harassing phone calls to Flair’s new girlfriend. I’d make a joke here, but this shit is confusing enough. (Prowrestling.net)
- Roddy Piper was recently a guest star of a T.V. show called “The Haunting of…” that I’ve never heard of, and claimed to have seen the ghost of long time rival Adrian Adonis. If that wasn’t crazy enough, there’s this :
Psychic-medium Kim Russo also said she was getting messages from different spirits around Piper. One of them, she said, was a man whose name had a strong "O" who came from a big family and who had died from a height, hinting at Owen Hart. Kim also claims to have seen the spirit of "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig.
The sound you hear is my face slamming directly into my palm as is the case whenever I hear “psychics” speak, as they prey on the memories and gullibility of someone who has suffered a loss. (NODQ)
- It appears that Chris Jericho’s latest run with the company has come to an end, as he tweeted a good bye to the WWE Universe – for now. He is scheduled for a summer tour with his band Fozzy, and his return to WWE is up in the air. I hope that he has one more last run in him, though. He’s always been one of my favorites and I would love for him to say a proper good bye. (Prowestling.net)
That’s it for me. I’ll see you this weekend for my Impact Review. Until then, that’s all I got.
