Naomi recently discussed why she quit WWE in 2012 with Mercedes Money, who was going as Sasha Banks. The Superstars departed WWE on May 16, 2022 before that night’s episode of Monday Night Raw. Their departure was due to creative differences surrounding booking their tag team championship reign. The two were a part of a multi-woman match for a title shot that night, but apparently, backstage issues led to the pair leaving.
Naomi had her stints in TNA after she left WWE for a short time before coming back. Her return signaled a fresh start after some time away and much reflection on what comes next.
During the second episode of WWE: Unreal season 2, Naomi addressed the walkout in detail.
“I’m not gonna get into super detail, ’cause I don’t like talking about it. So in 2022, me and my tag partner at the time Sasha Banks had won the tag titles.” There was a lot that happened that day at work that led us to… leave. Like, literally walk out. I needed to stand up for myself, and not as Naomi, but as Trinity, and that was the first time in my life, in my career, not employed and not knowing what to do next and where to go next,” she said (H/T Fightful).
Career-Defining Decision
Naomi had said the walkout was a defining moment in her career and personal life. It was the first time she felt that kind of uncertainty about her career and future that lay outside WWE. She stressed that it was a matter of standing up for the person behind the in-ring persona, not just about her.
During the same episode of WWE: Unreal, R-Truth discussed how he found out his WWE contract would not be renewed on the way to a dance with one of his daughters. The episode also offered a lot of intimate and sometimes bleak insights from WWE superstars that painted a different picture in the back.
Behind the Walkout
Naomi’s comments offer a rare look behind the curtain, showing fans what top performers sometimes go through in professional wrestling. Her walkout, which she took with crony Sasha Banks, was one of the most discussed moments in WWE history and one that wound a needle through creative clashes and personal stoutness.
