In a mass roster cut WWE has laid off over 20 wrestlers. The move was made by the Stamford-based promotion on April 24. Some of the casualties included 25-year-old up-and-coming Sirena Linton.
Through the three seasons of WWE LFG Linton was able to gain recognition. She appeared in advertising material as well to promote the third season of Legends and Future Greats which premiered on A&E on April 26. Although she was featured in various NXT live shows, she never appeared on TV officially.
On May 2, 2010, on Saturday WWE did further cuts. The company launched JC Mateo, Tonga Loa, Xavier Woods, and Kofi Kingston. Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer claimed that Woods and Kingston had requested their releases. The former champions refused to re-write their contracts. Several wrestling promotions have since shown interest in hiring the decorated tag team duo.
Linton’s Emotional WWE Statement
After the news, Linton spoke of her departure to X. She described the state of things as very emotional and was able to speak with a great deal of confidence and purpose. She said: It is with an extremely heavy heart that I share that I was one of the 20+ mass departures of WWE. Although this is the most painful news I have ever received, I know that I have done everything in my power to show how badly I wanted this and to make my dreams come true.
Linton emphasized her great experience outside the ring. She is a Mexican American college graduate who has a Masters Degree. She continued on and was an NCAA All-American gymnast. She had also participated in two National Championships prior to her joining WWE immediately after college.
She looked back at what she had created within the company. She was featured in three seasons of a nationally broadcast program, and had no prior wrestling experience. She added: “I take tremendous pride in my work ethic, my passion, my resilience, my vulnerability, my talent, and most importantly, my character. I work relentlessly, and I know exactly who I am.”
Linton Teases Exciting Content
Linton was thankful to all the people that helped her develop. She gave credit to those who assisted in making her the performer, wrestler, actress, athlete, and woman that she was. She also teased that exciting content is still coming. She said: I am particularly proud of my work on LFG Season 3, and I am just so excited to see it up on the screen.
She ended her message with a note of hope and moving forward. She wrote: To all who have, or continue to support me, who have followed my path, or who are just now finding out who Sirena Linton is, thank you all of you for your love, your faith, and your unswerving support. I hope one day you will all realize what God has planned, in my journey.
The next step that Linton makes is yet to be announced. But, in saying this she makes it clear that she sees this as a starting point rather than an ending point.
