By early indications, we may be heading for a big women’s singles match featuring AJ Lee at WrestleMania 42. Good Morning Judge! Sources in the industry suggest the much-awaited clash is now closer than ever. Citing Wrestle Votes Radio on Fightful Select, a singles match between Lee and Becky Lynch is considered one of the most locked-in WrestleMania weekend matches. Plans for the match have reportedly been in place for quite some time.
Rivalry Intensifies Quickly
Lee has been positioned as a constant obstacle in Lynch’s path since her surprise return last fall. The rivalry began at WrestlePalooza in September. That marked Lee’s first match in nearly a decade. She teamed with her husband, CM Punk, to defeat Lynch and Seth Rollins in a featured mixed tag bout. The match immediately reignited interest in Lee’s in-ring future.
Their issues escalated in November at Survivor Series. Lee submitted Lynch during the women’s WarGames match. That result handed Lynch another high-profile setback. Later that same month, Lee again interfered in Lynch’s business. She caused her to lose the Women’s Intercontinental Title on Raw at Madison Square Garden. All of which ratcheted up the tension between two bitter rivals.
WrestleMania Stakes Rise
Despite the momentum, Lee has not appeared in WWE since November. She now telecommutes part time. As of 2027, those are still her only two in-ring appearances since she reemerged on the September 5, 2025, edition of SmackDown. It’s a small sample, but Lee has been incredibly effective this season with the minutes he does get.
Lynch regained the Women’s Intercontinental Title in January. So that title change raised new stakes on this long-running feud. With the history that now exists between them and with unfinished business, a WrestleMania title match already feels inevitable.
WrestleMania 42 will be held over two nights. The festival is set to take place on April 18 and April 19. It will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev.
Division-Shifting Showdown
Lee’s short return date has already altered the shape of the women’s division. A singles showdown with Lynch would mark her biggest match yet. If things go as planned, then at WrestleMania 42, you’ll maybe see one of the most anticipated women’s matches in years.
