Dominik Mysterio was notably absent at WWE Raw, March 16 th due to an injury of late. This came as a blow to the star in a high stakes match at AAA Rey de Reyes where he defended AAA Mega Championship against El Hijo de Vikingo in a No Disqualification match on the 14 th of March. Certain conditions were attached, where a defeat would be a doom that would send Mysterio out of AAA, but the same was not applied to Vikingo, who was not free to even challenge the title, so long as Mysterio retained it.
Fierce Championship Battle
The fierce rivalry was enhanced by Omos, Mini Vikingo and Dorian Roldan who contributed to the confusion within the ring. Mysterio leaned over the odds to win a much-contested match, hitting Vikingo with a chair shot, a 619 and a Frog Splash to win the pinfall and keep his title. Criticism of the match was very positive in terms of telling stories and making dramatic moves, but it came at a physical cost to Mysterio.

The next day Michael Cole was on the March 16th edition of Raw, to announce that Mysterio was not medically fit to compete. The fans instantly started worrying about the young star, whose presence was missed in the lineup.
