WWE Unreal Returns This Month
Later in the month, WWE Unreal returns for its third season, giving WWE fans another look behind the scenes of some of the biggest moments that WWE has ever created. The new season will premiere on July 21 with 5 episodes. The documentary series will feature big-time returns, emerging talent, and the John Cena “farewell” to WWE.
CM Punk Revives Cena Character
In the midst of Cena’s retirement tour in June 2025, one of the most significant moments was during an episode of SmackDown. That night, CM Punk was seen wearing Cena’s popular “Doctor of Thuganomics” character. Punk wore a huge jersey, a backward hat, a large chain, and delivered a rap directly at his longtime rival.
Emotional Moment Behind The Scenes
The segment was a hit as the hits came with snark and reminisces. The upcoming season of WWE Unreal, however, shows that the exchange behind the cameras was much more emotional after the ring scene. Cena shares a heartfelt message from Punk in an exclusive clip from the series. Cena said his friend Punk “whispered in his ear” that he would miss him.
Punk Explains His Special Message
The moment was definitely memorable to the 17-time world champion. Many fans were happy about Cena’s retirement, but Punk said he wanted to be sure his rival took it well. “It meant so much to me, and I felt like it had to be a lot to him as well,” Punk said in the doc. Additionally, Punk said that he was looking to keep Cena grounded during one of the biggest times of his career.
Cena Reflects On Touching Exchange
He wanted to “center” him and fully immerse him in the experience. Cena admitted that the message resonated with him. “He gave me a very real and authentic moment. And it was very special,” Cena said. WWE has had some of the most legendary rivalries between Cena and Punk in the last 12 years. They were a big part of WWE through their in-ring struggles.
Respect Beyond Their Legendary Rivalry
Now, the fans will have an opportunity to witness a new aspect of that rivalry. Rather than competition, WWE Unreal will feature the respect that built up between two of WWE’s biggest stars as Cena’s legendary in-ring career comes to an end.
