Roman Reigns Set for Royal Rumble Return,Title Chase on Hold

Roman Reigns Royal Rumble 2026

Roman’s Lighter 2025 Schedule

The former Shield member has embraced a lighter schedule throughout 2025. Reigns understands the need to protect his body. He wants to extend his career at the highest level. He has also shown strong interest in projects outside wrestling. Many believe he aims to follow the Hollywood path of his cousin, The Rock.

It is clear that Reigns is no longer WWE’s symbolic centerpiece. That status changed after his loss to Cody Rhodes. The defeat came in the main event of WrestleMania XL. “The American Nightmare” ended Reigns’ historic run on the biggest stage.

Reigns’ WrestleMania 41 Spotlight

Even though he was conspicuously absent, Reigns was one of the biggest stars of 2019. He also participated in the main event at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas. The bout occurred on Night 1. He took on CM Punk and Seth Rollins in a marquee triple threat. Reigns failed to secure victory. Paul Heyman’s shocking betrayal played a major role.

Now, a return appears to be approaching.Per the most recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Dave Meltzer), Reigns will be returning at the Royal Rumble. The high-flying pay-per-view will be held Jan. 31 in Saudi Arabia. But, fans will not see a title push right away.

Reigns’ Rumble Return Confirmed

“We were told that Reigns will be the odd man out of the WWE title picture. He is scheduled to return at the Rumble and one would expect his direction to be clearer there. Reigns’ first match back was confirmed to us as being planned for Saudi Arabia” – Meltzer stated.

He also added: “That’s the thing that WWE sent to the TV Guide people… they sent it for SmackDown. So somebody just screwed up.”

The early months of the year will define Reigns’ role. He does not want a secondary position. He dominated WWE for years. Fans still react strongly to his presence. Many continue to chant his name. A true champion response may soon follow.
