CM Punk Joins SmackDown
“WWE made a surprising announcement on the July 10 episode of SmackDown. The company confirmed that CM Punk has joined the blue brand after winning the Undisputed WWE Championship. “Following his title victory, speculation quickly grew about Punk possibly moving to RAW.” SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis addressed the speculation immediately. He officially welcomed Punk to the blue brand and confirmed that the new champion will appear regularly on Friday nights.”
Nick Aldis Makes It Official
By doing that, Aldis effectively shut down weeks-long speculation about the wrestler’s potential return to Raw.
With a new role came a new responsibility for Punk, who addressed the WWE Universe about his intentions. He confirmed that he planned to be an active champion by fighting the best superstars for the Undisputed WWE Championship. To everyone’s surprise, Punk did not name Cody Rhodes as one of the potential opponents.
Punk Sends A Message
“Soon after Punk made his comments, Cody Rhodes challenged the new Undisputed WWE Champion to a match. Their confrontation continued on the following episode of SmackDown. The two stars came face to face and immediately created excitement among fans. The tension between them was clear, and their rivalry already looks set to become one of WWE’s biggest feuds heading into SummerSlam.”
Cody Rhodes Steps Up

Later that night, Nick Aldis announced the match at SummerSlam, which will happen in Minneapolis, where CM Punk will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship once again against Cody Rhodes. Punk responded to the comments about rumors that have been circling for the last two months before he accepted the offer from WWE. Rhodes claimed that Punk believed the company wanted to make a change, since he has been incredibly successful over the last couple of months.
SummerSlam Title Match Confirmed
It is hard to disagree that Punk’s return to the blue brand will significantly shake the WWE universe.
It will generate massive speculation about the potential feud between several superstars who have been on SmackDown’s roster for a considerable time. Gunther was the first one to respond to the news, confronting Nick Aldis after his comments about CM Punk. The German monster even attacked the SmackDown General Manager later that evening.
Gunther Reacts To The Move
Punk’s presence will allow the blue brand to create storylines and new matches for multiple superstars who want to prove that they are worthy opponents for the Undisputed WWE Champion. On the other hand, it will prevent WWE from making the same mistake twice.
A New Era For SmackDown
SmackDown has an incredible roster full of superstars who are willing to fight for the Undisputed WWE Championship, and it would be stupid not to utilize that resource if CM Punk becomes a free agent and goes back to the blue brand. The entire WWE landscape will change forever, which is the perfect thing to happen ahead of the most anticipated event in the summer of 2026.
