Title Loss Interrupts Kendal Grey Momentuma

The rise of Kendal Grey in WWE NXT has been halted at the worst possible time as the 25-year-old rising star suffered an injury during her defence of the NXT Women’s Championship against Kelani Jordan at NXT Heatwave 2026. During the competition, Grey took a bad fall on an exposed turnbuckle and Jordan followed up by pinning her to win the title.

Medical Evaluation Diagnoses Vestibular Issues

WWE gave more information on Grey’s condition on the following week’s NXT. Commentator Vic Joseph noted that she had suffered with vertigo while defending the title, and while the ringside doctors ruled out a concussion, further tests showed there was an issue with her vestibular system. This part of the body controls balance, and due to this issue, the doctors were not able to clear Grey to wrestle.

Successful Title Reign Built Strong Credentials

As Grey was just beginning to establish herself in the women’s division, this injury could not have come at a worse moment. She had just won the NXT Women’s Championship from Lola Vice at the Great American Bash 2026 and successfully defended the title against Natalya two days later. She also went on to win a rematch against Vice inside an NXT Underground match to make her reign more credible.

In-Ring Performances Prove Champion Caliber

With her amateur wrestling pedigree, Grey was more than prepared to compete at this level on a regular basis, and winning the title gave her the opportunity to do so. It appears that her rapid rise was going to be stopped in its tracks by this illness, but it seems that her in-ring work-rate was paying off. Due to her winning of the NXT Women’s Championship, she had the opportunity to face Jordan again at Heatwave 2026, and it seemed likely that she would be given a shot at the title again if she could get past her illness.

Uncertain Return Pauses Main Roster Ambitions

However, with her current condition, NXT writers have to find another way to get Grey back to full fitness before they can think about her challenging for the title again. While it was speculated that her quick rise could see her get a main roster offer, WWE has yet to make an official announcement, and for now, her full recovery is the priority.
