Vikingo Suffers Serious Knee Injury
El Hijo Del Vikingo relinquished the AAA Latin American Championship due to injury. The WWE superstar has suffered an injury that has kept him out of action for a considerable period. AAA announced the news on its latest show. The promotion revealed that Vikingo suffered the injury during his June 30 match against EK Prosper on WWE NXT. According to the promotion, he has undergone knee surgery and will be out for six to eight months.
AAA Vacates Latin American Title
As such, AAA decided to vacate the Latin American Championship, which Vikingo held for only 42 days. Despite the loss, El Hijo Del Vikingo was at least able to make one last appearance for WWE, challenging Rey Fenix for the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship on the following SmackDown after the Night of Champions. He would ultimately be unsuccessful in the endeavor.
Final WWE Appearance Ends In Defeat

WWE later wrote Vikingo off television through a backstage attack by Keanu Carver. Shortly afterward, Vikingo shared an update on social media. He posted a photo showing himself wearing a knee brace and using crutches.AAA later addressed the situation during a press conference featuring Omos and Dorian Roldan. Roldan stated that Vikingo would be sidelined for ‘many, many weeks.’ He also criticized Rey Mysterio for allowing the champion to compete on WWE programming before the injury.
Rey Mysterio Addresses Title Situation
Rey Mysterio was unfazed by the accusations, asking Omos to return the belt. After some back-and-forth, Mysterio and Omos eventually came to an understanding, with the latter handing over the championship belt to him. As such, Mysterio was the one to announce the title’s vacancy officially. Rey Mysterio said it was unfortunate that El Hijo Del Vikingo would miss several months due to injury.
New Champion Plans To Be Revealed
He also said that injuries are part of the wrestling business. Mysterio said AAA will reveal its plans for the vacant Latin American Championship at the next event. Several stars, including Damian Priest, are expected to compete for the vacant title.
