WWE Returns To Historic Mexico City
The scene in Mexico City during Rookie Night at WWE‘s first-ever Raw there in 15 years was just a setting, but it was a colorful one. The promotion claimed a record total attendance of 49,017 fans during the promotion’s big weekend events. Monday night was the culmination of that historic run and Penta was in the best role of his WWE career. In an unforgettable main event featuring what is widely regarded as one of the most memorable TV matches in WWE history, Penta matched up with Roman Reigns for the coveted World Heavyweight Championship title.
Judgment Day Disrupts Tag Action
The first tag title fight was a mess and the referee disqualified the contestants. El Grande Americano and Stephanie Vaquer’s bout against Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan got caught up in the Judgment Day. Rey Mysterio, who is in the hall of fame, also joined the battle, and the local fans loved it. In addition, Bayley added an interesting future piece, stating, “I will prove to Lyra Valkyria that I am the example of pro wrestling.”
Gable And Qualifiers Shape Cards
On the other side of the card, Chad Gable defended his Intercontinental Championship title and prevailed upon Dragon Lee with the ankle lock. A post-match embrace (respectful) marked a change in the spirit of competition to the spirit of sport. In the meantime, high stakes qualifiers had consequences for the Money in the Bank ladder matches starting in the next few weeks. Austin Theory and Big Cass, both of whom had started the game tied for second place, were cut by Je’Von Evans. In the women’s side, Lola Vice earned her Raw debut by taking her big boot off Raquel Rodriguez who rolled over her, outsmarting her and Kelani Jordan en route to the victory.
Reigns Retains Against Relentless Penta
Despite an early effort by Reigns to finish Penta with the Sacrifice Hold, it did not work and Penta held on. The challenger put up a spirited defense, making huge attempts to fall with astounding Mexican Destroyers. But Reigns ended up changing the tide with a spectacular midair superman punch. His championship cleanliness was secured with a devastating Spear finish. This was an A-minus level epic encounter. The winner was the champion, but the defense felt highly substantial because of Penta’s relentless offense.
Mexico City Fuels Balanced Raw
The best thing Raw did, however, was to be very well balanced overall. No one ever considered Mexico City as a stop for tourists. Rather, every aspect of the show from the host city’s influence to the show’s running style to the stakes were a direct result of the passion of the host city.
